In which we discuss the consequences of zero exercise....

The sun is shining, and my slaves are out in the big wide world doing my shopping for me. Ahhh there are some perks to this lounge-on-the-couch business. And my son is making me coffee. This is a cunning plan to deflect him from pacing behind me, breathing heavily in an effort to dislodge me from the computer.

I am the Mum. I am in control. Hahahahahaha.

So the summer holidays start here. Not that it has made much difference to me. All those plans for the summer are out of the window, and I should have known better than to make them in the first place. But just think - if this had happened last year, I would not have been able to go and see Diana in NZ. So life could be a lot worse indeed. My holiday pics for this year will include the changing scenery from the couch. You will be stunned and awed by the variety. And I will live vicariously through all of you out there. So make sure you post many many photos, with details.

This enforced inactivity is not being a blessing to my hips. I am used to walking miles every day at school, and now I swear, I am expanding at an alarming rate as I recline on the couch. My muscles are turning to flubber. Blubber. Highly unattractive excess baggage. I tried to do some exercises yesterday while reclining with my knee above heart level as instructed. You try. Go on. Ridiculous.

The clothes still fit. They are just fitting a little more closely. Groan. So I am refusing to wear anything with elastic waistbands right now, in an effort to remind me that some things should not expand any further. You will be the first to know when I order a kaftan on line. Good grief - I just said kaftan. Who remembers them from the 70s?

Right. I am tired of the pacing behind me. I will hobble off to the couch and languish and try some heavy duty sighing myself to induce guilt. I am a stellar mother, you will note. A little guilt never hurt anyone.

Shuffle thud shuffle thud shuffle thud.........

  1. 'Elastic wasitband' is a term that is music to a woman's ears at times! Right now I am hearing a huge marching band! When you order that kaftan will you put in an order for me too?! All this summer eating is taking it's toll on my waistline, wait a minute, what waistline??????

  2. If you want to make God laugh then makes plans! I used to love kaftans when I had nothing that needed covering - wouldn't want to wear one now - I'd look like a tea cosy!

  3. Ah yes....I know the feeling. I broke my back several years ago and everything turned to blubber. It will get better once you are able to get up and moving again. Any luck on getting into the specialist before November?

  4. OH, yes, kaftans. And other such lovelies that I used to sew in the 70s, because they were the style. Yuck!!

As for making plans - the Bible is clear on that one, isn't it? My sis and I were going to Kansas City to visit a dear friend, but now we're sticking around here to be with our grieving friend and her family and our church family, who are all in a state of shock. And the airline is keeping our money. Kind of them, don't you think? I guess if our little funds can keep them out of bankruptcy, so be it.

  5. Always something to worry about isn't there?! Take care and don't stress yourself. And I will try to post some pictures of summer here in Canada so you have something to divert you :))

  6. Oh dear, alas. It's a bit hot for going for walks, anyway. And you can't worry about everything at once.

  7. I love walks but unfortunately it's out of the question here, it's just way too hot and I wouldn't dare step outside for a 115 degree walk LOL

But I so relate to your post LOL

  8. Ah, wish I had your sense of humour (this is the second time I'm typing this as my computer hiccuped and I lost the first try)about the difficulties in life.

I would try to post more photos of summer in Canada too, but I don't know if you know where I am. Sometimes these bloggy comment link thingys don't seem to go anywhere. Will post a thingy and see if it works...http://weblog.xanga.com/LadyoftheManse

  9. Oh, I do really enjoy your outlook! I've been praying that the knee would just up and heal on you one morning but exercise with one knee above the heart I'd have to say - humorously impossible! And that's coming from the pilates instructor! Lying down stretches could work I guess - LOL

I'd say enjoy a few good books for me this holiday!

  10. Here I've been blaming it on my closet,(my clothes shrunk in the closet). The heat,I'm drinking and retaining more water.Or different manufacturers make different sizes....some bigger, some smaller.
Now I have to fess up and take the blame for making bread, jam, and cakes, and cookies.I could blame my elbow, it always bends and puts things in my mouth when I least expect it....LOL.
No joke I have gained when I have always lost weight in the summer.
You can't always exercise when you need too.It is upsetting to HAVE t o stay inside. Its just too hot here to get out.
    Bless you Linds, Donna
P.S. The recipe for the blueberry cake is on my recipe blog, at the bottom of my blog-roll.

  11. Elastic waists are great! Just don't tell Dr. Phil that I said so. Really, if I didn't resort to them sometimes, I'd have the baggiest butt. A kaftan? That's also a nice look for a woman of leisure such as yourself. Scooting before I get hit...
