4 o' clock in the morning...

Morning all - and it is dark o' clock here. I just watched those crazy women swimming 10kms in open water. I would have sunk long before the first one. In fact the first 100m might well have been a stamina challenge. They are mad. Totally mad. Apparently you can grab the person in front of you by the legs to stop her. And please tell me who decided that BMX bikes and beach volleyball were Olympic sports????

It is Wednesday already and there are just 12 days before the schools go back. And a week before I see that consultant. The summer is disappearing rapidly. I know I have spoken often about spending the summer on the couch and how frustrating it is, but yesterday I looked at my son, as he lounged in a chair and chatted to me, and I thought....this is a gift. If I had been mobile, I would have been doing things and whizzing about, and these times would have been rare. And it has also been a time when my closest friends have been sitting there too, chatting, laughing, and sharing their days with me. So there is always something to be thankful for.

Diana arranged for a cake to be delivered to celebrate David's results, and on Sunday, a little man from Tesco rang the doorbell and handed over a Dr Who cake to him. He was delighted. She was less than impressed with my offering of chocolate biscuits. Internet shopping is a wonderful thing indeed!

So here are a few things I am thankful for today:
  1. Thoughtful children (all 3 of them)
  2. Friends who pop in
  3. A kettle which works
  4. Laughter
  5. Great books to read (that book I ordered months ago has finally arrived!)

  1. You forgot to list #6:

The blessing of being thankful in the moment.

In spite of all your trials and tribulations with your injury, you've still found so many things for which to be thankful.

Hope today is blessed for you. :o)

    Love and hugs,

    Diane

  2. I am so thankful that you have so much to be thankful for - and you are so right about the blessing of having your son sit and chat with you before he flies the coop! I know it has been a frustrating time, but I am glad you are seeing silver linings in the clouds.

I agree with you about some of the Olympic "sports" - I think the Greeks are rolling over in their graves - either with disgust or with laughter!

  3. My warmest congratulations to your son!

Isn't it lovely how we find the simple serendipities in life in the most unexpected ways. It sounds like you've had some really special moments this summer.

  4. Hello dear Linds,

Finally catching up with your last few posts...this has been one of those weeks with little time for visiting!

I haven't been able to watch much of the Olympics so I'm sure I'm missing quite a few special moments. Truth be told, I get tired out just sitting there watching these athletes! lol

You're right, there is always some good that comes out of bad situations and that's something we must always remember:-) xoxo

  5. She is a sweet, thoughtful girl!
I know it makes the heart lighter when we can think of things to be thankful for - even when life didn't go as planned. Wonderful Linds.

  6. BMX has a big question mark, for sure. However, come on,I ask you - really - what's non- sporty, competitive, athletically skilled or watchable about beach volleyball? Come on Aussie, come on, come on. Come on Aussie, come on!

  7. Linds, you have found the "good" part of being on the sofa...and it sounds very good indeed.

Still "enjoying" the Olympics by reading about them here. ;>

  8. So many times we think of situations as being so horrible when, in fact, they are a blessing. We recently had a young gal die unexpectedly following her husband's job loss several months ago. At the funeral he was saying how blessed he was to have had those last few months at home to make precious memories with his wife and children.

There is so much to be thankful for in our everyday lives. I am so glad that you have had special time with your son before he heads off for school.

  9. I have been thinking of you often.
Loved this post. Some of these athletes are mad indeed.

I think I will go warm the kettle and make myself a cup of tea.

    Be blessed Linds.

  10. Missing your posts here...after all, it's been a WHOLE DAY!!

Hoping the knee is at least not as painful, if not healing well.

    One of my blessings? YOU!

  11. Time with one's grown children is such a precious thing. Savour each special moment, Linds. And how thoughtful of Diana to have a cake delivered. I bet she's learned those little extra touches from you :))

What book are you finally reading? I hope it's been worth the wait.

  12. Time is one thing that you can't pay for. You are so wise to see the gift that you've had--even if the price was being attached to the couch.

I keep telling myself my issue with my vehicle could have been so much worse. No one was hurt. It happening a parking lot, not on a highway. It was pleasant weather. There was so much to be grateful for.
