At the same moment that the Olympics opening ceremony began, I was having the MRI scan. It lasted 30-40 mins, and just before the end, I made the mistake of swallowing. And because I was flat on my back, I spent the next few minutes choking and coughing, attempting to continue breathing. Without moving anything. Cue booming voice over the loudspeaker - Stay absolutely still, Linds. Stay absolutely still. Unfortunately one cannot cough without moving body parts. And I needed to breathe. In the end, he did that bit again. But it is done. Thank heavens.
Anyway, the nice little man told me his lips were sealed and wouldn't tell me anything, but apparently my consultant will have received the pictures etc yesterday. And I came home to the Olympics.
Andrew, Ann, David and I watched the man running around the rim of the arena to light the flame, and the conversation turned to London 2012. You know BECAUSE WE ARE DOING THE NEXT OLYMPICS!! We discussed Health and Safety Rules Which Must Be Obeyed.
Just do not expect anything remotely resembling China's Opening ceremony in 4 years time. That man running around the roof would have had to be wearing a hard hat, with a safety/fluorescent /orange jacket, with scaffolding in place, and probably a face shield for the flames, and fire retardant gloves. Or maybe a totally fireproof suit. Not to mention the mile deep foam safety mattress on the arena floor.
However, we loved the footprints across the city, and we all practiced being doves in my lounge too. With enthusiasm and much vigour. And those 2000+ drummers were amazing. It was beautifully done. However, the march of the athletes could be speeded up just a little. To warp speed.
So - now I am off to make coffee, bake croissants, and enjoy the day with some of my children. If Diana were here, it would be just perfect.
Have a great weekend!
Enjoy watching them...and how have I already forgotten that the Olympics will be there in 2012? Well, perhaps I can rev up some enthusiasm for that.
ReplyDeleteHope this nasty three-week storm of ours sails off north or south of you. What a summer!
Wasn't it absolutely amazing? But a bit... well, too amazing, really. When you think of all China's problems. My mum, who lived through the war, found the extreme regimentation of the ceremony a bit spooky. But it was truly spectacular all the same.
ReplyDeleteI do hope that London is going to make do with a few balloons and streamers. There's no way we cam compete with China and I'm worried about my taxes...
Glad to hear that the MRI has been done...I've never had one before and hopefully won't ever have to!! lol I also watched the Olympics opening ceremonies and it truly was awesome...talk about synchronizing 1000 people all at the same time! Sheesh! Here in Canada the safety rules are also very strict and I don't think one of our athletes would have been allowed to light the flame the way the Chinese did! I agree with you, the march of the athletes takes much too long...they should just take pictures of the groups and show those on a jumbo screen! lol xoxo
ReplyDeleteWasn't it just the most amazing opening ceremony ever? I'm laughing at your take on what would happen if that gymnast walked the perimeter of the dome in your country. LOL
ReplyDeleteThe drummers were unbelievable. Many times during this show, I couldn't even comprehend how all the participants could possibly remember exactly what to do. I didn't see a single mistake - absolutely everything they did was perfect.
I'm glad that MRI is behind you. Now, for the results.....
