Thursday may be the day....

When I was making all those hideous phone calls on Monday, I happened to mention to the hospital people, that I had an appointment with my MP (Member of Parliament) on Friday. Casually. In conversation. Which I DO have, by the way. They had told me at that point, that I would possibly get the appointment for the op in the new year. I was restrained. I said very little. There was no point. They hold the power, and seem to wield it as they see fit.

Anyway.

Yesterday, very early, guess what? I had a call from the hospital. Oh, they said, we know you want to be seen quickly, so we THINK we will be able to squeeze you in for the arthroscopy on Thursday. Which Thursday? January, maybe? No. This Thursday. As in tomorrow. As in the day before I am meeting the MP. Irony? Oh yes.

Is this what it takes?

They have told me though, that is COULD be cancelled. MAY WELL be cancelled. But there is a CHANCE that tomorrow it will be done. And believe me, even if I am trundled in to see the MP in a wheelbarrow, I will be there on Friday morning. Oh yes. With all my paperwork. We have a lot to discuss.

For good measure, I popped in to see my GP today, and told her what was going on. She was unsurprised. She grinned. She is a lovely lady and a wonderful doctor, and her frustration has mirrored mine throughout this nightmare.

I am not holding my breath though. I will go through the no food or drink thing from 6am, and have to be there at noon. If I have it, I will be spending the night with my friends afterwards. If not, I will be here. Of course. We will see.

And now for something completely different.....

A young friend of mine is off to LA on Sunday for a holiday. I know that over the past few months, I have seen everyone writing about great autumn magazines, and can I remember any of them? No. Not one.

So

Help!

If you were to recommend one great magazine for her to buy for me, which would it be? Tell me which American magazines you love and why! Which are your favourites? Which can't you do without? We don't get any American ones here. Sigh. I am deprived. I need to know!

Thankyouverymuch!!

  1. I adore "Country Living" and have had it as a subscription for over twenty years and have saved every copy. Let's not delve into this illness of mine, okay? ;>

Hope that you friend has fun!

Hope that this appointment on Thursday goes as planned. A little scopy would be a good thing just now to see what in the world is going on.

    Catch you later...

  3. Hope your Thur appt goes very well.
I have no idea what magazines you are able to get over there. My favorite is Real Simple. Sunset is also a great one that showcases the Western US.

  4. Linds, I'm so glad there is at least a hope of getting the surgery tomorrow. I'll be praying.
I was going to suggest "Country Living" too. "Woman's Day" and "Family Circle" are nice little magazines too. My favorite has always been "Victoria".
So there you have my two cents.

Magazines? Hmmm....even though they've about rurnt it, Southern Living is still good, also Taste Of Home, Country, Birds And Blooms, Woman's Day and you might like Paula Deen's magazine.

Happy Wednesday, though yours is already gone and into Thursday....

    Love and hugs,

  8. I am so glad that you are going to finally be seen. It is so necessary to get a sense of what is wrong so that they can fix it before it is too late.

Magazines .....Quilting Arts......you would LOVE it. Great ideas and fabulous artists in the field. Seeing your previous work, I know that you would love it. I hope she has a good trip.

  11. I'm praying that you get in for the procedure tomorrow - and that you have a great 'visit' with your MP too!!

If your friend were coming to Canada, I'd load her up with Canadian Living and Chatelaine! I think you've got some great suggestions already, especially as you are trying to limit it to one ;) I like Better Homes and Gardens and they also do Scrapbooks Etc. which would be great for your SB inspiration.

  13. I would echo Sunset, Better Home & Gardens and Scrapbooks, etc... If you are into home, cooking, gardening and scrapbooking. For fashion, I only look at InStyle anymore because that's what they concentrate on. There are no 'sex quizzes', political discussions or gossip columns. Ah, but you can get in in the UK version so maybe that's a push. :)
