Sunday snippets...

The sun is shining - that lovely late afternoon golden kind of sun, and the light is streaming through the skylights in the kitchen. It is wonderful. Golden, not bright ,white light. I have had a visit from the babes, who arrived bearing German cinnamon biscuits. I am doomed. Apple cake, chocolate cake, cinnamon biscuits........ I think I am having lettuce for supper.

Remember when I mentioned payrolls and the possible lack of credit lines to fund them? Guess what was on the news here this morning? It appears that some venerable institutions here, including county and district councils, for heaven's sake, saw fit to invest their millions in Iceland. Why they have millions to invest is another question I will certainly be wanting an explanation for if they attempt to raise council tax here, but that is another story. Anyway, they may not be able to meet their payrolls in 8 days time. Oops. The government will, of course, extend them new credit lines but if one suddenly is not paid, it stands to reason that maybe one is not insured through work either. As I said then, this affects everyone, safe jobs or not.

The allotment is still spewing out veg, and I have a huge bag of potatoes, beetroot, beans and courgettes to sort. The beans have gone beserk all of a sudden. And I still have half a bucket of apples to do something with, but I have run out of freezer space. I am really thankful for all the food though. Fresh and homegrown. And free!

I hope you are all having a great relaxing Sunday...... the new working week with all its inevitable challenges will be here soon enough.

To all my Canadian friends, Happy Thanksgiving!

  1. Hi Linds,
I'm catching up on everyone's news. Seems to be the story of my life lately as I have so little time for blogging.
Glad to read you tried driving, but so sorry it was painful. I understand about wanting to be mobile and independent even if somewhat painful..
The financial news here has been anything but cheery. Our town declared bankruptcy with all that that entails. Our state is in a terrible mess too. Who knows what will be next??
Thanks for your birthday wishes for me!!

  2. My son saw all the panic about Iceland and wondered why it would cause concerns in the world.

I had JUST seen a report about it on Fox Business, how so many towns and cities (especially in England) had invested their money in Iceland banks due to the big interest rates they were paying.

As we say here, "What were they smoking, anyway"?

Not that the government in the USA is any better. It is hard to believe what they have been doing. Sheesh...

  3. Sounds like a beautiful day there Linds.
I think that you are well set if anything even more drastic happens. You will have a full pantry (or freezer as the case may be).
You have a lovely sunday too!

  4. It sounds like you will have a busy day with all those veggies. Do you put any up for the winter. I would imagine that would be hard on the knee.

The economy appears to be a disaster everywhere right now.

Hope your week continues to be sunny. xox

  6. Yes, I'd have thought twice about investing my money in a country of 320,000 people. Just in case something went wrong - not too easy for the people to pay out lost billions. But there we are. They didn't ask me.

  7. Sounds like a beautiful day. It was almost down to freezing here last night and now it is cold and drizziling.

  8. I am catching up and find that you've had the good, bad, and indifferent. Good variety!

    The apple cake sounds delish.

Have a good week! May your knee just miraculously improve!

  9. We had a lovely Thanksgiving dinner today; the apple sauce and potatoes that were mashed and the pickles were homegrown and/or canned by me! First time in my life I can say something like that.
Hope you will have a lovely week.

  10. Thank you - we had a lovely day! Full house, full table, full of blessings! And now the fridge is full of leftovers too - that's one of the best parts about hosting the gathering :))

The whole global economic situation is changing and there are so many pieces to the puzzle. Sometimes it makes my head spin and It's so comforting to have freezers and shelves loaded with food that's been processed by us. Food to eat and no worries about contamination or transportation costs - yeah!! Thanks be to God for all the good things He has blessed us with and the promise that He knows our needs and will provide.

  11. It would be so easy to let the current situation of the world economy and so many other troubles depress us and take away our joy. I try to remember who has the whole world in His hands and to thank Him for my many blessings.

Here's to a better week and better news for all of us.

    Love and hugs,

    Diane

  12. I wish I lived close to you, & I could help you with your wonderful veggies, & apples.
The financial strife of the world, is hideous, so I turn my face away to smaller matters. Perhaps I am an ostrich, but I feel I need to be at present.

  13. Have just heard on our news bulletin that our Government want to reassure the people that 'at this stage' the gov't are able to guarantee the safety of deposits into our accounts - I should think so, seeing as your wage has to be deposited into your account.
