My non-letter....

The one thing I have not done this year is a Christmas letter. I had a hilarious (short) one from an uncle and that gave me the idea for my own. So this is what I would have said had I decided to write one at all.......

Well, 2008 has flown by with all its accompanying challenges. I have come to expect these! And here I am, a year older, hopefully a little wiser, slightly dented, and ready to see what 2009 will bring.
Merry Christmas!

So I decided to leave the Christmas letter this year. You can see why. There is only so much one can say about half a year spent on the couch now, isn't there? And most of the people who know me, know about the blog, whether they read it or not, so they know all the news!

It is icy cold here, and there has been freezing rain all day. It is good to be indoors with little tree lights on around the house. It looks cosy and warm, and I will probably fall asleep watching TV in a while. It is time to be still. Well, it will be after I get the washing out of the drier and sorted. And after I make some more coffee.

  1. Most of my family lives within 25 miles of one another and we see each other either daily or several times a week, so there's not much point to me writing a Christmas newsletter.

It's cold and windy here but no freezing rain, praise God. We may get some of that nasty stuff early next week, though I really hope we don't.

Stay warm and have a good evening, or what's left of it now. If my figuring is right it's going on 10 pm there, and 2:37 pm here on Saturday.

    Merry Christmas, Linds! :o)

    Love and hugs,

    Diane

  2. Dear Linds,

You have done way more than lay on the couch for half a year. What about -
    meeting new friends
Winning some battles from the past.
Tennis with the oldies (come on!)
    Sending son to College
Ground breaking news of impending Granny status.
Strength and TALENT to be creative.
Being stalked - like on MSN?
Challenging debates with those in the supposed medical know!

To name but a few non-couch activities.

Your year may well have been dominated by the knee - but -

There's one thing for sure -
You have been a God send to me.

and for that I give thanks.

    Cheers.

  3. I love this letter and may copy it for those in my life who need a chuckle.

Your year has been incredibly full, just look at your archives here. May 2009 be full of recovery and new joys to share.

    Merry Christmas, dear Linds!

  4. Linds, I don't know what happened here. I wrote a comment and started to send it, but it disappeared. So here it is again:

Looks to me like Mary has your number. I thank God for friends who will tell us how it is. Between the two of you, I can't lose. You are both so appreciated.

  5. Linds, I haven't been reading your blog for a long time, but what I have read, you have accomplished a lot. Remember the successful soup diet you did with me?

2009 is going to be a great year.

  6. Christmas letters are such a challenge. How to say what's really on one's heart and to share without sounding ridiculous has proven too tough for me. One year, the only year that I wrote such a thing, I said that I was getting fatter and that my hubby was getting balder. That seemed about the only news that I could come up with. Blogs are way better!

It does seem as if there's a book title in there somewhere, though... a "My Six Months on the Sofa" kind of thing. I just know that you'd find plenty of inspiration in the words you've already set down. It's just the kind of quirky title that I'd purchase. After all, I did read "The Man Who Ate the 747."

  7. I love your letter, but I"m with Mary - you've done so much!! And you've made us chuckle and laugh out loud through it all. I got my letter out with a picture, but later than normal. I'm not getting many back yet - people are not using postage this year, it seems. We'll see how the next two weeks go.

Come over and visit my nativity sets - it'll get you in the spirit for sure!

It's snowing beautiful puffy flakes, with about 4 inches so far. DC has headed over to Kristen's to do her driveway and walks before church - well, he might be a bit late for Sunday School!

Have (or hope you've had) a wonderful Sabbath!

  8. Christmas letters are always a love hate sort of thing. Someone I read lately was just going to put a blog link on her cards so they could check out her year if they were interested. A humorous one would be cute.

Glad to read that your Switzerland trip is coming up soon. I can't wait to see all the pictures.

  9. Hey Linds,

I don't do letters either. Especially since I am waiting on the "One" from my cousin who is 60, married to a school teacher, and they have 3 kids under the age of 13. He got married late!! Their letter may as well be a form letter, change the ages, and add a new picture, which looks exactly the same as the year before:) It is a crack up here, (not to be disrespectful here at all). I love yours, and I must read back over your archives once the holidays are over, December 26th for me. I don't do new years and take the tree down right after Christmas. I just bought my tree yesterday. I am so behind and I think you are doing great. And oh yeah, can't have too much coffee on these chilly days. Stay warm and cozy. Us Grandmas need to be around for a long time:)

Love and Hugs, Laurie in Ca.

Oh my gosh! I STILL HAVE TO SEND OUT CHRISTMAS CARDS!

The whole "dented" thing? Totally hilarious!! I think I might steal that one for my own cards. :-)

    Merry Christmas!
