Believe me, NOTHING will get through that. Talk about a woman on a mission. My daughter did start muttering the words "obsessive" "paranoia" and "insane", but she did hold the frame while I hammered nails with vigour. And she operated the staple gun too. It is a little larger than I intended, I confess, but it will keep the rodents with bushy tails out, and that works for me. Hah! And that took most of the day, with many breaks to regain strength along the way. The pacing is still not going very well. In fact it is not going at all. Who needs pacing.....
And my irises are finally in bloom and looking beautiful. They are just next to the lilac tree, which I forgot to include in the photo, as I am an idiot. Not to mention too lazy to go and take another photo!
Diana has been transforming my kitchen. It is a new kitchen. It sparkles too! And she is slowly recovering from the jetlag. I am just loving having my daughter about. Sigh. I am still grinning, people!

It is my fond wish that my daughter might transform my kitchen one day. :D Yay for Diana!
ReplyDeleteThat is an impressive cage for your plants. Well done!
Beautiful, delicately colored irises. Have I already told you that I adore irises because they improve with age? What a concept!
Keep right on smiling; you're making me smile, too.
What a clever idea that cage of yours. And with daughter around, you're on a definite up-swing. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteImpressive cage!! You sound like me - if you're going to do it, do it right the first time! Enjoy that daughter and all the magic (physical, mental and emotional) that she will work for you in these days. Beautiful flowers!!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad your daughter is there and doing such good things for and with you. Great cage!
ReplyDeleteThat will keep most any creature out!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that you are enjoying Diana so much. I can read the smiles.
Gorgeous iris!
Very clever, you are. I'm impressed with the cage. My iris and lilacs are beautiful this year, too. The flowers of spring are so enchanting, aren't they.
ReplyDeleteYour inventions amaze ME, that will definitely keep them out.
ReplyDeleteI was driving down the road and looking at irises flowing out of a garden and wishing I had some! Then I looked at your blog and there they are.
ReplyDeleteI need irises in my next garden. My grandmother used to have a multiple variety in her garden when I was small - big and small, blue to maroons - we loved to 'pet' their big, furry 'tongues' and smell their delicate smell. Great memories - thanks. S
I don't know about your inventions necessarily impressing me - but I do know that YOU impress me ;)
ReplyDeleteYou did great Linds. You will be glad it is big when everything gets growing and fighting for space.:) I love the iris's, they are just gorgeous. Oh how I'd love to turn Diana loose on my kitchen:) Enjoy this sweet time my friend. I know you are!!
ReplyDeleteLove and Hugs, Laurie
Thought I'd surprise you with a comment. Yea!!! Am so glad you're having time with your son and daughter.
ReplyDeleteI'm always suprized how well your plants and flowers grow. My Iris are very tall. Same color as yours. But your Lilacs grabbed me most of all.
If it's o.k, I'd like to show my son the picture of your anti-animal/critter invention, and see if he'll make one for me. You are one smart lady.
Ah, those irises! I love them and I don't have any that colour...
ReplyDeleteGlad you're having such a lovely time with Diana.
Good blog and I hope I can pop in again soon!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the squirrels are scratching their heads, trying to figure out how they're going to get in there! hehe You did a great job, though, good for you!!! Your irises are just gorgeous, I love their colour. All of mine are coming up but no blooms yet. Enjoy every minute with your daughter:-) xoxo
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed by your squirrel cage. They seem to overcome every barrier we put up in our garden, so will be anxious to know if yours is effective!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time with your daughter :)
xo
Several comments here:
ReplyDelete1. Your daughter sounds like my daughters with their no-nonsense, don't-keep-anything-you-haven't-used-for-three-months philosophy. I am just like you--I have hobbies and activities and am somewhat of a saver.
2. Do your cages open from the top so you can get in easily? Good job on them, and doesn't it do your heart good to know you outsmarted those cheeky squirrels?
3. My mother loved the Iris and she had many different varieties from deep purple to peach to varigated colors and ruffles and so on. She loved them and nurtured them and talk at length about them and where she got them. Now she is gone and so are they.
4. You are an amazing woman. Keep up the good work and enjoy your time with your daughter.
Hi Gloria - yes they do open from the top so I can get in to them easily. I am really proud of the fortress, and so far, I win and the rodents aka squirrels, lose! Thanks so much for your lovely comments! And I love the irises too. I really want to get some different colours for next year....I must remember to get them in at the right time. Sigh. I forget far too many things. Note to self: Make more lists and don't lose them.
ReplyDeleteLovely iris!! I miss my grandmother's flower garden. Your pictures brought back some precious memories.
ReplyDeleteI like your squirrel thingy. We are contemplating something similar on our back deck, to keep the little ones from plunging over the edge.
