Wednesday.....

It is snowing again, and has been all day. I will say NOTHING FURTHER about the precipitation other than it must stop. This is definitely a stay at home and do not venture out of the front door kind of day. We are all turning into hermits in this village.

I have made a pile of leaves to go with the flowers now, people. It is seriously addictive. Now I know why my mother has crocheted enough blankets to warm the country in her time. I think it is time to start trying the ripple. Or the stars.

I lay in bed last night listening to the reports from Haiti re the earthquake - there were no pictures on tv of the devastation at that stage. What a disaster for an already impoverished country. I just hope and pray the international aid gets there as swiftly as possible. At times, I think I have very little, until I see what very little, or nothing really is. I - we - are so incredibly rich in comparison to the world's poorest, and we should never forget that. We need to do something about it.

  1. We have a former student who had gone to Haiti in September to work for one of the organizations there. She was trapped for several hours under some rubble, hospitalized, and is now being flown to a hospital in Miami. She's alive, but injured.

That really makes this disaster feel closer to home for us.

  2. I'm more inclined to think that their dictatorship needs to be overthrown. So much of our foreign aid never reaches the people because of those in power there now. So much of their own efforts to improve their lives is thwarted. Thus it has ever been, I'm afraid. I'd really like to see something good happen in Haiti and for Haiti. Prayer is a good place to start.

So when do we get to see the leaves?

  3. Yes indeed.

Meanwhile, enjoy creating your flowers, dear Linds.

  4. You are right. Hearing about Haiti should make us all count our blessings.

It looks as though the snow should finally clear over the next few days, though today's final(?) fling was an unexpected twist. Apparently the gritter got stuck and blocked the road near us this morning. Not good.

  5. My cousin was in Haiti for several years wihh the USDA, trying to help them learn to farm. But their land has been stripped of all nutrients and the water just rushes down the hills with no grass, trees, or crops to stop it. It's hard to imagine that the Dominican Republic, just the other end of the island, is so much more prosperous, a tourist's paradise. Yet the Christians there are so joyful. They just can't catch a break.

  6. Not more snow???? Oh dear.

Yes, the disaster is beyond comprehension. I can't even imagine where one would begin in the situation.

  7. The devastation in Haiti is just heartbreaking Linds. It is so good to see the out-pouring of help and compassion.
I know what you mean about the crocheting. My Grandmothers each made beautiful bedspreads with those thin crochet hooks and fine thread. I have never been able to crochet with anything but wool. My Mom even used to make tiny little baby shoes for each new baby. They are precious keepsakes.

  8. You are so right about that!! We are blessed indeed! We are just watching the news and the pictures are heartbreaking. Our governor-general (the Queen's rep here in Canada) is from Haiti and she was devastated when she spoke tonight. Praying for everyone there and that we will all help as we can.

  10. We have missionary friends in Haiti with four young children but they are about 100 miles from Port au Prince so they are safe. He has gone there to help so I do worry.

Love you crocheting! The flowers are so pretty!

We got more snow today. I had to be on the road most of the day but have 4-wheel drive so was fine. I was glad though when I got home!

Good thoughts coming your way from Maine! xoxox
