A pause in the quilting to chat......

3. Comfortable footwear now that winter is approaching.

Hi there. Yes, I know that some of my thankful things may sound a little bizarre, but I have deliberately avoided using the more obvious ones. They go without saying, and will always be there at the top of the list. But so many other things I tend to take for granted merit a thankful heart. I have shoes. Many do not.

I have finished 2 of the autumn cushion covers today - there is so much quilting waiting to be done that I do believe I will be stitching for the forseeable future. The small things are simple, but the large ones are going to take some time. And before we know it Autumn will be gone! Right. I need to go and bond with the needle and thread soon. The new cushions do look lovely, I have to say. I need to take some photos. Tomorrow.

Our supermarkets here are suddenly full of Christmas things, and I can't tell you how many people had trolley loads of paper, Christmas crackers, ornaments etc today. They all appear to be a great deal more organised than I am! And our weather has taken a warmer turn. Well, let me say that the weather people tell us it has, but I have yet to feel any proof. Today was supposed to be 16C and I dressed appropriately. I had to come back for a coat. It may just be me, of course, because I noticed that some spring bulbs in my garden seem to think this is the right time to sprout. I have what look like tulips popping through the soil. In November. Oops.

I have a question for my American friends. What do you use corn syrup for? I have two bottles of it - one light and one dark. Please give me some tried and trusted suggestions! I haven't got a clue.

And now I am off to do some quilting......

  1. I use it when I make Chocolate Puff Wheat Squares. Hmmm not sure if you have the Puff wheat over there, do you know? It's one of my kids and grandkids favorite treats, and so easy to make. If you want I can get you the recipe. Just let me know

  2. Hi Linds! Light and Dark Corn Syrup (Karo) can be used like maple syrup on pancakes and waffles. However, usually the light corn syrup is used in making popcorn balls and Rice Krispie Treats (especially nice with a layer of melted chocolate and/or peanut butter on top)!

  3. My favorite thing to make with the light corn syrup is divinity fudge, which is divine, obviously. Yes, we want to see the cushions and anything else that you are quilting that isn't a gift or anything...

  4. Oh my goodness....so many things!!! My favorite would be for my caramel praline cake, but also for my pecan rolls and homemade toffee. I use a lot of it while baking.

Vicky/East Texas...Oh my goodness, Linds! Nobody mentioned pecan pie for the dark syrup, and 7 minute minute frosting for cakes for the light! Need the recipes? I'll be glad to send you my recipes. Actually, isn't the pecan pie recipe on the bottle label of the dark syrup?
Yesterday you got me fired up about quilting and sewing. Today, it's the Karo! UmmUmm! Guess I'll have pancakes tomorrow morning!
    Thanks alot...haha!

Vicky/East Texas...You have also gotten me fired up about being Thankful for all of my blessings. I like the idea of naming something everyday like you and some of the other ladies are doing. Thanks most of all for that idea.

I have a pecan pie recipe that uses both light and dark corn syrup. It makes one of the best pecan pies I've ever had.

  8. I use it for the Christmas Poppycock (popcorns with almonds and pecans covered with a gooey sauce) that I make every year. A tablespoon of it in cookie dough will keep cookies soft and chewy. Have fun experimenting! And please show us the quilting projects!

  9. I have a fabulous recipe for baked beans that has light corn syrup in it.
But the biggest thing I ever used it for .... no kidding .... was to keep those teeny, tiny bows in my daughters' sparse hair when they were babies. True, even though possibly horrible, story. Someone told me about it and it worked wonderfully. It was also quite easy to rinse out.
So there you go .... not the most common answer .... you may want to go with the baked beans and all of the popcorn ball recipes (yes, I've used it for that, too.)
    :)
