So the painting continues and the rest of the house looks worse by the day. Isn't that always the way? The woodwork has had its first coat and the transformation is amazing. So amazing that I am tempted to keep a completely empty white room with a chair in it and just revel in the whiteness and brightness.......
I may be losing the plot here. Possibly the paint fumes. (There are none.)
Jean, bless her, rocked up this morning, clutching fresh scones for tea, so she too could marvel at the machine, the whiteness and the total mess in the rest of the house, and tell me whether I should start potting on my seedlings. As one does. Just before she arrived, I made the mistake of noticing more cobwebs in the lounge. The painter friend then just happened to look behind a painting on the wall - I ask you, people, do you EVER go and look behind a painting on the wall??????? This meant that there was much hilarity around here, and comments like "Shall I take down the paintings so the walls can be vacuumed? "
Hmmph.
Just a word of advice here - if you darken my doorstep, do not even begin to think of checking the walls behind any paintings. Not until I tell you I have redecorated, and you can be certain all walls will have been cleaned within an inch of their lives prior to meeting up with the paint roller.
Life is too short to vacuum walls behind paintings. You heard it from me.
PS I apologise for the total lack of scintillating news. There is none. I am home. The house is a tip. But my lilac tree is starting to bloom! The end.
and the painting is progressing....at least you have something to show for the last few days...I on the other hand have apparently achieved nothing at all unless you can count putting out a load of cardboard for recycling and torturing my piano teacher during my lesson....no idea where the hours have gone...and no I wasn't lying drunk under the table!!
ReplyDeleteOh how easily I can agree to never peeking behind your pictures. Ha! Love that story.
ReplyDeleteNow I've looked at the sponge again and I get it. Somehow I was reading the wall or the floor or whatever is below as the counter and I could not bend my head around why anyone would slam his or her head there. My eyes. I need an appointment.
Looking forward to the big reveal. That will keep you moving forward, eh? The big reveal that is? I can see it now. You in your rocker in the middle of a pristine room.
I totally agree. Life is far too short for vacuuming behind paintings, as it is too short to a) stuff mushrooms; b) dribble blackberry jus on plates so it looks like drips; c) dust the tops of wardrobes
ReplyDeleteI love the smell of freshly painted rooms especially if I didn't have to do the actual painting! I am terrible at it and I mean terrible! Your home is going to look so amazing when you get all done whether you vacuumed behind everything or not!
ReplyDeleteI am looking at your lilacs and just envisioning in my mind what they must look like in person. Lilacs are the true meaning of the return of spring! Mine are just little buds at this stage and I am anxiously awaiting the real thing. Also your apple blossoms are beautiful, again I can only imagine as we had snow a week ago! :o(
Cobwebs - oh, my. My sweet hubby spots them and I tell him, "If they bother you, then you can take care of them." I just don't look up there - nor do I look behind pictures on the wall!!
ReplyDeleteAnd - as for dirty walls, oh, my. Dirty fingers on 4 little girls makes for lots of dirty, and I don't have what it takes to get busy on the cleaning - we need to paint desperately, but I know if I do one room, I'm in for the whole thing - and that makes me nauseous!
The lilacs are gorgeous - hoping for some out here this year - now that the snow has already melted, maybe the sunshine will do great things when it comes back in full force.
Now I desperately want a lilac tree!
ReplyDeleteThe first picture of the lilacs just coming into bloom is wonderful! Hope the painting goes well and your home is filled with the brightness you are looking for.
ReplyDeleteI have been living in the middle of a construction site for 2 weeks - hopefully all the work will be finished next Wednesday. The entire house is covered in dust - I have given up trying to keep it clean! Know that it will look wonderful when it is finished though so it will all be worth it.
ReplyDeleteThe worst part about fixing something up is that everything else looks bad.
ReplyDeleteLove your lilacs. Could you please arrange for a smell-a-vision next post?
Your Lilac is a feast for my barren eyes!! Who knew about pictures, then??
ReplyDeleteOh, the lilacs! I can smell them. Mine are blooming at home and I'm missing them this year.
