Royal Wedding....

Today, the nation celebrated. No-one on earth does pageantry quite the way the British do it, and every moment of the wedding was magical. Precision timed. And yet, so personal and rather like a family wedding. Prince Harry always makes me smile, and he was a star today. His brother's best man. He was not going to be a "supporter" - no, he was going to be the best man. Seeing those boys standing there together made me think just how proud their mother would have been.

The two princes are real men. They work very hard at demanding jobs. They try to be as normal as possible, and they have fun as well, and it shows. William and Kate have been together for a long time, and they are at ease with each other, and that shows too - they clearly love each other very much. And she looked superb. Elegant, and absolutely stunning. The dress was a triumph. Her sister was breathtaking as bridesmaid. I don't think I have ever seen a more beautiful bridesmaid's dress, and how lovely that she walked with the two little flower girls.

It was simple and lovely. The music was beautiful. The trees in the Abbey were gorgeous. The whole thing was perfect. Sigh. And all those people! 2 billion watched, apparently. There were a million people on the streets lining the route, and half a million at the Palace. Another 300 000 in Hyde park, and then there was Trafalgar Square too........

The new generation of the royal family is looking good. And the Queen looked wonderful too. Happy and lovely. She is 85 now, and the Duke will be 90 soon. Amazing. A lifetime of service, given willingly.

And now the highlights are on and I am going to watch it all again. At least now I know they are safe and no lunatic attempted anything. I hardly breathe while they ride about in open carriages - even knowing there are marksmen all over the place and thousands of security people, including helicopters in the sky.

A wonderful day. Congratulations to them both!

  1. I couldn't agree more Linds....and I breathed a sigh of relief when they made it back to the palace unscathed too. It was really lovely, wasn't it!

  2. I was worried too. But I loved the way they both looked happy and comfortable and slightly shy. A lovely couple.

  3. Yours was the review I wished to read. I'm so glad that you had a very happy day! (Even I was able to watch the best three hours and I think I agree with everything you said concerning the wedding.)

  4. I actually got up at 4:30 (me-who sleeps shamefully late most mornings) to watch it all. My husband got up too - what a guy!
We just loved it Linds, and I thought about you as I watched. It was all beautifully done.

  6. It was wonderful - from the first moment right to the last kiss on the balcony! I thought of the boy's mom and how very proud of William she would have been. I thought of you too - and of Becky who was in the thick of it all. I pray that they will make each other happy and serve with joy and humility. Looking forward to their visit to Canada this summer :)

  7. Ditto....I couldn't have said it better. What a thrill it was and I couldn't help but wonder what it would have been like to have had Diana there happily married to Charles.

  8. It was brilliant, and a breath of fresh air in all the terror we have been dealing with here in the States. I was determined to record it, watch it later but my alarm clock broke and I knew if I went to sleep I would never get up in time for dialysis. So, I stayed up all night and watched it all.

I loved her dress, her simple flowing hair, DIY makeup. Her sister was stunning as well, and the bridesmaids were adorable :)

Harry made me laugh, William looked like a man in love.

All in all, a welcome respite.

  9. I must admit that you Brits know how to put on a glorious wedding. Everything about it was perfect. Love all the tradition and pomp. Long live William and Kate.

  10. Your summary of the Royal Wedding is brilliant! The British traditions and sense of ceremony were in great evidence today and the wedding was lovely from start to finish. I was "at the wedding" at 3 am (in my family room) and enjoyed it very much.
