Well, today can best be described as a day full of dollies, Fisher Price (vintage) people and extras, chocolate cake and smarties, birthday candles and shape sorters. Pushchairs and little ironing boards, bags and a little girl who has not stopped talking since she walked in the door.
A little girl who helped her Moregranny fill vases of flowers. Who pulled up a chair and sorted the fruit bowl and "went shopping" repeatedly. And whose giggle and grin has delighted us all. As Glynis said this afternoon, we could sit and watch her all day. The child is showing immense talent for ordering people about. I suspect that the dream job for her would be Speaker in the House of Commons. She could absolutely sort out all MPs around these parts, with one hand tied behind her back.
AND don't forget that there is a birthday girl in the house too, of course. Mum is 86 today and we have sung happy birthday, she has opened presents and cards, and we have eaten cakes - David made a cinnamon one and Missy a chocolate one, and Peter and Glynis came to tea and a great time was had by all.
And then, for good measure, I skyped with the girls who are attending the 40th school reunion back in Cape Town. That was wonderful, even if I couldn't see them in the very dim light. It was great to catch up with some of them. And now it is flopping time. It is exhausting keeping up with little girls! But I am loving every minute.............
I will be back with photos later.
Day 12: For friendships forged in the classrooms of my youth - for voices from the past which are instantly recognisable. For a shared history. And for shared memories.
Oh it sounds like the best kind of day! Just the kind to wear a gramma out too!!
ReplyDeleteThree year olds (or almost) are such fun! Our almost 4s are getting to be more fun every day, and my most fun thing to do is to listen to them playing with each other - their imaginations just go wild. Wish we could get those 3 little ones together!
ReplyDeleteAnd your mom's birthday - how special. Sounds like a perfect day, ending with talking to your school friends - what a blessing.
I am sitting on the couch in Maine while K&A watch a football game. I am so very behind on blogging and even reading - haven't posted in over a week. I just can't seem to get the words out of my "mouth" and onto the "page." Maybe this afternoon yet!
Sounds like a wonderful day! Happy Birthday to your mother! Next year, Missy will be baking the cake. =)
ReplyDeleteShe baked it this year. With a little help from her Mum. She LOVES baking and decorating the cake is a speciality too. So is licking the bowl.....
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful day for you all!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a VERY GOOD DAY! Glad things are looking up! H xx
