Hello from my new study!!!!m The computer works! The plugs are all in the right holes! The Internet works! Eureka!!
Sigh.
It was a real task to get things sorted and in their places, especially as I didn't actually take out some of the cables, but carried things through connected. That made life difficult trying to untangle things, but we got there and here I am.
|
Did I mention that I had to saw the desk top in half? That took a while..... |
One measly screw in the top of the old desk would not budge, so I took out everything else, and ton Sunday morning, after church, Jean and I gave it a mighty heave and out it popped, so the old study is now free to clean and decorate. At last. I have no idea where I am going to put all the wood from the study, but I am not throwing it out. I may make things with it. So watch this space.
And I am now going to open the box as a reward for demolishing the old one. I may read the instruction book. And then I can make the bench and paint it and put it outside. And put the cascading pots on to it, as they are doing their cascading over the paving in a wild fashion and soon it will be a total carpet with nowhere to walk.
But it is so pretty.
|
The opened box and access to the 16 pages of instructions. That was as far as I got... |
I wrote all the above yesterday and then got sort of distracted by the mess and the cupboards and bags of fabric which have not seen the light of day for 10 years at least. And ooooh! There was some African fabric! And little squares all ready to stitch and...
I separated it into stuff I want and stuff to go and put it all in little bags in colours, ready for the giant fabric sort which will be happening here in the very near future. My craft room is currently a small corridor between large boxes and, although I can reach the sewing machine, stretching my arms would present a slight problem. No room.
But I will get there. Soon.
So I discovered the delights of polyfilla yesterday after a vigorous aquarobics session, and filled all the holes in the wall. Then sanded them down later. That was yesterday sorted. Today, there has been a repeat of the vigorous aqua, but it was zumba today, and before I went, I washed the walls with sugar soap. So when
I Jean has papered the one wall with lining paper, we can paint the walls white and THEN I get to see the benches in place. Forget the fact that I have to unearth the spare tiles for the floor under the place where the old cupboard was. They are at the very bottom of the very full garden shed. Sigh.
|
The mess which makes me hyperventilate.... |
The decorating lark is not a mammoth job, you see, because a) the room is very small, and b) it only really has 2 walls to sort, because one is an archway and the other has a bookcase on it which will be staying right where it is.
So it sounds impressive, but is not really. However, it was my first attempt at filling holes. Geoff used to do the filling part. I just waved the paint brush and roller about in an artistic fashion.
Now where is my camera.... I can bore you all to death with blank walls.......
|
Blank walls. Ready to be decorated......
There you are - you have photos of the mess, the progress and finally the blank walls. It is raining here as I speak, so gardening is not on the list for today. Apparently it will be raining for the foreseeable future, and while I know how much some of you need rain urgently, there is something vaguely amusing about the fact that a few months ago, the news here was of drought, falling water levels, watering restrictions etc. And since the day it was announced, so help me, it has rained constantly. I am delighted for the water reserves and my flowers. I am not thrilled about the lack of sun. It would be really good to be wearing summer clothes. I am in thick jeans and a sweater as I speak.
So,maybe I will haul out the paintpod and see how that works while I listen to the tennis. More instructions to read........ Or the alternative is to empty another cupboard. Or maybe build that bench. Surely the washing is dry by now so I could have the space....... |
I think that's incredibly impressive. Nothing stops you Linds!
