Field trips and schools

I loathe alarm clocks that go off at 5 in the morning. I loathe having to crawl out of bed and get dressed at 5.01am. And more than anything, I LOATHE driving to the next town at 5.15am in dense fog at a snail's pace with no sign of the road at all. But I did all the above with a smile, albeit forced, to take David to school to depart at 6am on his Biology field trip. The one I am convinced is being held at a 5 star hotel in Yorkshire, given the cost of the 2 day trip. He and his ginormous wellies are there as I speak. And, please note and applaud with vigour, I LET HIM TAKE MY CAMERA. My camera and I are very attached. I am a star. No, make that a mother.

Why is it that boys as so unconcerned re the packing idea? Now, if it had been my daughter going on this trip, she would have been packed and ready and sorted a day or so in advance. David??? I gave in and threw all his stuff into the bag myself at 10 last night, always aware that I could be making a late night dash to Tesco to get the forgotten bits. He breezed past me at 10 and announced that he was off to bed. Packing? I suggested? I know where everything is, he replied. Men! To his future wife, one day in the far distant future, I say.... I tried! And failed, it seemed.

Work. I come home and I am drained, and I am not wildly enthusiastic, and I cannot forget the disquiet I have felt about taking this job. Something does not feel right, and I still have no idea what it is. The people seem nice, and the kids are not that bad, but there is still something there. I will wait and see, and decide by the end of the week. And I seem to attract inspectors. We are being "Ofstedded" on Thursday. Yesterday, there was an accident on the way to work and I arrived late. Not ideal for one's first day. I did wonder if that was another divine sign, I have to say. Today, I was so early, the school was empty when I arrived. And we have had fire alarms going off each day too. In the rain. So watch this space. I have no idea what I will do.

  2. I have confidence that you'll get the job thing figured out. It's really hard to move ahead when you don't feel sure of the road. I, too, pray for God's guidance for you.

  3. No, you're a star! My son, also named David asked to borrow my camera and I said a BIG NO! Of course, he's not real good about bringing things back. He means well!

  4. Your son sounds just like my husband . "I'm too tired to deal with this. I have to go to bed now!!!" Drives me crazy!! I hope he has a good time and brings the camera back full of good pictures.

Praying that you will know the right thing to do about the job. Do trust your intuition, My Friend.

I love your tradition of having the same ornaments to put on your trees around the world! I've taken the kids' ornaments and given them theirs as they've had their own homes and trees to decorate. Kind of bittersweet!! For our granddaughters, I've brought an ornament home from our travels: China last year, Germany this year, and we already have a destination in mind for 2008!!!

Thanks for coming to visit my blog! I love seeing your messages.

  5. I understand Linds. I have gotten as far as getting my husband to throw on the bed the things he would like to take on our trip. Folding and putting into the suitcase - haven't gotten that far (and am resigned to being official packer).
I pray you'll have wisdom and peace about the job. It is so unsettling not to know for sure.

  6. My goodness, how did I get so far behind? The cinnamon cake looks wonderful! The sewing room looks wonderful! The packing for your son is not so wonderful. The first day of school doesn't sound so great. It will be interesting to keep updated!

  8. Good luck with your job decision!

As far as boys and packing. They would wear the same outfit for days if allowed! I know mine would!! A momma has to step in.

  9. Thanks for your comment about my SB layout. Don't worry about your stack of pages waiting - that's exactly what you created your new space for and old age is the perfect time to work on them. I hope you will enjoy working on them again soon - or leave them and go on to some new work, like NZ scenes!!

  10. Hello dear Linds, I'm finally here to catch up on all your news!! Having raised 2 boys, I so know what you mean about them not worrying when it comes to packing. lol It's gotta be a male thing because even my friend Steve, when he and I leave for a weekend in Niagara Falls, he packs about 5 minutes before we leave! lol

Congratulations on getting that job but it doesn't sound like it's truly what you want...I always say listen to your instincts!!

Oh my, that cinnamon cake sure looks good, I'm going to copy the recipe...I love anything that has cinnamon in it:-)

    Keep well my friend! xoxo

  11. You are one brave lady. Dragging yourself out of bed that early can only be for love and dedication. Driving through heavy fog just about scares me to death.

I will be praying that you figure out what your body's already reacting to about the job.

  13. Too funny...my husband always lets my boys pack themselves. I can't help myself and riffle through all of their things, calling out to my husband, "Did you know he only packed 2 pairs of underwear (for a seven day trip)?" Or, "these socks don't match..." Or, "why is THAT in your suitcase?!?"
Bet you can't wait to see the pictures!
    Blessings,
    Michelle
    (PS...praying for your job...)
