Julie Andrews makes me smile

I can see this coming..... I got this as an email this morning, and had to grin. I think you will enjoy it too.

To commemorate her 69th birthday on October 1, actress/vocalist, Julie Andrews made a special appearance at Manhattan's Radio City Music Hall for the benefit of the AARP. One of the musical numbers she performed was "My Favorite Things" fromthe legendary movie "Sound Of Music".

Here are the lyrics she used:

Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazines tied up in string,
These are a few of my favorite things.
Cadillacs and cataracts, and hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses,
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favorite things.

When the pipes leak,
When the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favorite things,
And then I don't feel so bad.

Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favorite things.
Back pains, confused brains, and no need for sinnin',
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin',
And we won't mention our short shrunken frames,
When we remember our favorite things.

When the joints ache,
When the hips break,
When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I've had,
And then I don't feel so bad.

Julie Andrews received a standing ovation from the crowd that lasted for over four minutes and repeated encores.

I wonder what I would change the lyrics to. Maybe we could all do our own versions!

Some of those lines are "oh so true"
My rhyming abilities are not up to Julie's however!!

I'm 69, too and thank goodness I don't have alllllll of those things wrong. How cute and how unusual for a celebrity!! Usually they are in getting face lifts and not hamming it up about their age. Cudoo's to Julie!!!!

Oh, I just LOVE her!!!! She's the best. We just watched the Sound of Music a couple of weekends ago and my hubby and I were thrilled at how much my son loved it too. Anyway, she's great! Thanks for sharing.

Oh boy...that got more than a giggle out of me today!!!! I may have to set up a link to share with others...that was great!!! BTW...I want to thank you for all the encouraging comments you have been leaving on my posts...even the one that disappeared! Sometimes even when we jump into the pit of our own accord..it's tough getting out...and I appreciated your extended hand and I am thankful for your friendship.

Linds--

It has been a joy to catch up here today. I love your new haircut--as well as your posts on working and aging.

I have been physically run-down myself for a few months, feeling older than I am and stretched thinner than I like. But you've encouraged me in several ways to still be thankful for the many little things.

Thanks!

Jeanne

Oh, this is wonderful! :D
I just wrote a whole post this morning on being 44...and how it makes me feel a little on the brink of it all. This made me smile...and made me feel just a little younger! :) Thank you!
