Arctic weather......

It is FREEZING here. We have had snow. Sleet. Hail. Temps tonight will be 2C in this area, and tomorrow will be a high of 7C and a low of 3C. And it gets worse the next day. Being inventive, I hauled out a new fleece blanket I bought from Ikea ages ago for a couple of £s, and folded it in half, cut a half circle out and popped my head through the middle. I am now sitting here wearing a poncho. In pale turquoise. I am a sight to behold, believe me, but I am warm. I do believe I am setting a new fashion trend. It is called the eco-warmer. I may even sew some interesting bits on it tomorrow.

I got sick of wrapping myself in a blanket. My hands kept getting lost. This way I am snug as a bug. Hah! Strike one for the genius. And if it gets colder, I may cut a hole in another one and wear 2 at a time. See - it is always good to buy things like fleece blankets when they are really cheap!

Now where did I put that hotwater bottle Jean bought for me?

I am freezing just reading the post. BRRRRR! I love the idea, though, and think it might be big! Stay toasty.

Good for you to be so creative! It's true: Necessity is the mother of invention. A few years ago when natural gas prices were so high here in Alberta, the premier of the province offered the sage advice to put on another sweater. It's become a standing joke around here whenever someone wants to turn up the heat. He was always quick with his mouth - not always appropriately!

I hate to tell you that we have had 2 days (and 1 more predicted) of balmy weather in the 12 - 17 degree range. Amazing after a blustery weekend of higher than 90 km/h winds and a high of +3! We are the place of extremes but I will enjoy warmth while it's offered.

It's going down to 1C or colder here tonight, but the days are more tolerable. No snow or sleet here yet, but we have had snow on Halloween not too many years ago.

It is that time of year though. Stay warm and if you post a picture of your turquoise blankie/poncho, I promise not to laugh. Smirk maybe, but not laugh. ;o)

Love and hugs,

Diane

And I WONDER where all my genius comes from...

Maybe the ultimate in warmth would be to do the same thing with a wool blanket, put it over your head on top of the fleece one so it doesn't itch, and you'd be reeeeaaaly cozy warm. I agree with Susan -- where's the picture?

Yow! I can't believe it's so cold - haven't heart from our family Brits. Is it this cold in the Manchester area?

Very good thinking - and glad you had the basics that you needed for this brilliant idea!

I have a couple of ponchos made from a very easy pattern and they are just the thing for cold weather.
